The law firm of McCoy & Associates, PLLC was founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1982 by Attorney Robert I. McCoy. In 2001, Attorney Robert I. McCoy's daughter, Attorney Robyn L. McCoy joined the law firm. They have the only father daughter, African American owned law firm in Washtenaw County.

Robert I. McCoy attended Western Michigan University at the age of 16 as one of
the first recipients of Upward Bound Scholarship. Mr. McCoy graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Western Michigan University in 1970, a Masters in Political
Science from Western Michigan University in 1973, a Masters in Counseling and
Guidance in Higher Education from the University of Michigan in 1976 and a Juris
Doctorate from the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State College of Law) in 1982.


Mr. McCoy is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit
Court of Appeals, the Eastern and Western District Court of Michigan, the US Tax Court, the State Bar of Michigan, and the State Bar of Arizona. Mr. McCoy has received numerous awards, been appointed to various boards and is currently a member and was past president of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association. He is also presently a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Arizona Bar Association, the National Bar Association and a former member of the American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice.

Ms. Robyn McCoy graduated with Honors in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1996 and obtained her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000. Ms. McCoy has served as a Congressional Page for the US House of Representatives for the Honorable Congressman William D. Ford in Washington D.C., interned in the office of US Senator Carol Moseley Braun in Chicago, Illinois and was a Legislative Assistant for the Honorable State Representative Ronnie Peterson. While attending the University of Chicago, she co-founded an academic support network for Black Women called Sistafriends and she was the Umoja (Cultural Chair) for the Organization of Black Students. Ms. McCoy also participated in a study abroad program in France in 1995. She tutored elementary students in the Chicago Public School System and was mentored by former First Lady Michelle Obama during her senior year at the University of Chicago.


Ms. McCoy is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan and the Eastern
District of Michigan. Ms. McCoy has been a licensed practicing Attorney since 2001,
starting as an Associate with the firm of McCoy & Associates, PLLC and an Attorney
with the Legal Aid Defender’s Association, representing indigent adults on felony cases. Ms. McCoy worked with the Michigan Children’s Law Center as a Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem for children on neglect cases and a Defense Attorney for children on delinquency cases for the past ten years. She worked with the Educational Advocacy Unit of the Michigan Children’s Law Center from March of 2017 until December of 2019 and is presently a Partner with the firm of McCoy & Associates, PLLC, specializing in criminal defense, expungements, state pardons, neglect & abuse cases, delinquency cases, educational advocacy, family law, estate planning, probate, wrongful death and personal injury cases. Ms. McCoy is also a certified mediator. Ms. McCoy has received numerous awards for her educational programming, her advocacy and activism.


Ms. McCoy is Vice Chair for the National Bar Association’s International Law Section, a Member at Large for the NBA’s Criminal Law Section and Deputy Director for the NBA Region 6. Ms. McCoy is the Immediate Past President and a current Member of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Past Vice Chair and a present Board Member of the Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus, Past President, Past Board Member at Large and a current Member of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association (the African American Association for Washtenaw County), a Member of the Detroit Association of Black Organizations Health Disparity Council, a Past Board Member of the Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Chapter of the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, a Member of the Women’s Lawyers Association of Michigan, a present Member of the Wolverine Bar Association, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Washtenaw County Bar Association and the National Bar Association.
 

Attorney Rodrick K. Green is a Vietnam Era Veteran, who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and the Michigan National Guard.  Attorney Green received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University in 1978. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981 and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University in 1985, where he studied theology and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  

 

Attorney Green worked for 10 years with the Wayne County Friend of the Court.  He was an Assistant Prosecutor for Washtenaw County. Attorney Green’s professional involvements include his recent appointment on the Washtenaw County Road Commission, he served 14 years as Superior Township Trustee, he served as Chairman of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), where he has served on the Executive Board for 15 years, he was a past member of the State Bar Representative Assembly, representing Wayne County for 3  two-year terms.      

 

Attorney Green is the current Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His passions include serving the residents of Washtenaw County, for which he was lauded as District Pastor of the Year for 2010 by the Huron Valley District Association of Baptist Pastors.  His past associations include serving as Past President of the Ann Arbor Breakfast Optimist Club; the Ann Arbor Human Rights Committee; the Washtenaw County Community Corrections Board; the Washtenaw County Salvation Army Advisory Board; the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association; the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Ministerial Alliance; the Detroit Council of Baptist Pastors and the Detroit Lions Renaissance Club.  He is proud of his current appointment to the Arbor Hospice Board of Directors and loves his Washtenaw County community. Attorney Green specializes in family law, criminal law and probate.
